Donald Trump

WSJ Op-Ed Cracks The Code: Why Liberal Intellectuals Hate Trump   Tyler Durden Oct. 22, 2018   As pundits continue to scratch their heads over the disruptive phenomenon known as Donald Trump, Yale computer science professor and chief scientist at Dittach, David Gelernter, has penned a refreshingly straightforward and blunt Op-Ed in the Wall Street Journal explaining why Trump has been so successful at winning hearts and minds, and why the left – especially those snarky ivory-tower intellectuals, hate him. Gelernter argues that Trump – despite being a filthy rich “parody of the average American,” is is a regular guy who has successfully resonated with America’s underpinnings. “Mr. Trump reminds us who the average American really is. Not the average male American, or the average white American,” writes Gelernter. “We know for sure that, come 2020, intellectuals will be dumbfounded at the number of women and blacks who will vote for Mr. Trump. He might be realigning the political map: plain average Americans of every type vs. fancy ones.” He never learned to keep his real opinions to himself because he never had to. He never learned to be embarrassed that he is male, with ordinary male proclivities. Sometimes he has treated women disgracefully, for which Americans, left and right, are ashamed of him—as they are of JFK and Bill Clinton. –WSJ Gelernter then suggests: “This all leads to an important question—one that will be dismissed indignantly today, but not by...

Russiagate

The Grammar of Russiagate   Sheldon Richman Mar. 2, 2018   Grammar, usually taken to consist of the rules of correct syntactic and semantic usage, becomes, in [philosopher Ludwig] Wittgenstein’s hands, the wider—and more elusive—network of rules which determine what linguistic move is allowed as making sense, and what isn’t. This notion replaces the stricter and purer logic, which played such an essential role [in his first book] Tractatus in providing a scaffolding for language and the world. Indeed, “Essence is expressed in grammar … Grammar tells what kind of object anything is. (Theology as grammar)” (PI [Philosophical Investigations] 371, 373). The “rules” of grammar are not mere technical instructions from on-high for correct usage; rather, they express the norms for meaningful language. Contrary to empirical statements, rules of grammar describe how we use words in order to both justify and criticize our particular utterances. But as opposed to grammar-book rules, they are not idealized as an external system to be conformed to. Moreover, they are not appealed to explicitly in any formulation, but are used in cases of philosophical perplexity to clarify where language misleads us into false illusions. Grammar is not abstract, it is situated within the regular activity with which language-games are interwoven: “… the word ‘language-game’ is used here to emphasize the fact that the speaking of language is part of an activity, or of a form of life” (PI 23). — “Ludwig...

Khashoggi

Settling The Khashoggi Case Is A Difficult Matter   Moon of Alabama Oct. 14, 2018   The negotiation over the Khashoggi case will be extremely difficult. The protagonists are headstrong and dangerous people. The issue could easily escalate. The Ottoman empire ruled over much of the Arab world. The neo-Ottoman wannabe-Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan would like to regain that historic position for Turkey. His main competition in this are the al-Sauds. They have much more money and are strategically aligned with Israel and the United States, while Turkey under Erdogan is more or less isolated. The religious-political element of the competition is represented on one side by the Muslim Brotherhood, ‘democratic’ Islamists to which Erdogan belongs, and the Wahhabi absolutists on the other side. There are more tactical aspects to this historic conflict. When the Saudis cut ties with Qatar it was Turkey that sent its military to prevent a Saudi invasion of the tiny but extremely rich country. This gave Erdogan the financial backing he urgently needs. In response to that the Saudis offered several $100 millions to prop up the YPK/PKK proxy force the U.S. uses to occupy north-east Syria. These Kurdish groups fight a guerrilla war within Turkey and are a threat to its unity. The effective Saudi ruler, clown prince Mohammad bin Salman (MbS), made a huge mistake when he ordered the abduction (or murder)...

Donald Trump

“Male Energy,” Authoritarian Whiteness and Creeping Fascism in the Age of Trump   Paul Street Oct. 19, 2018   “You Made a Superman Cape for Me” Who needs dystopian political fiction in the age of the orange-tinted monstrosity that calls itself Donald Trump [1]? Two Thursdays ago, as news came in of fatalities and massive destruction caused by a record-setting hurricane that slammed into the Florida Panhandle and Georgia the previous night, cable news buzzed with the story of a strange soap opera that had just unfolded in the Oval Office. In a bizarre reality television episode from the White House, the mentally disturbed Kardashian family member/victim Kanye West gave Trump a model “iPlane,” because, he said, “this is what our president should be flying in.” West delivered a strange 10-minute soliloquy touching upon his own bipolar disorder, the 13th Amendment, Adidas, Chicago, and Trump as a national father figure who embodied the “male energy” West had missed in his childhood.  While dozens of media personnel arrayed around the president’s desk snapped pictures, filmed, and took notes, the self-hating Black man West explained his decision to don the swag of a great white racist by wearing a Trumpian “Make America Great Again” ballcap: “You know they tried to scare me to not wear this hat. My own friends. But this hat gives me a different power in a way.  You...

SI

Situação Internacional   João da Silveira     Seg. 15 OURO : PADRÃO : ANTÍDOTO PERFEITO AO FASCISMO : Jim Willie escreve : “O Estado fascista sequestrou a função monetária e o setor financeiro. O Estado fascista também transformou a função militar numa máquina predatória. Apesar dessa pegada, o Ouro age como antídoto perfeito, administrado pelas mãos do Oriente. Na verdade, o Ouro vai restaurar a ordem e a honestidade no sistema financeiro global. O Eixo do Fascismo pode ser retratado como [USUKI] Estados Unidos, Reino Unido e Israel. O triunvirato TPX está encarregado de ressetar o sistema financeiro global. Assim temos Trump, Putin e Xi a assegurar que o Padrão Ouro seja instalado sem guerra global. O Padrão Ouro vai desenrolar-se num longo esquema tático organizado e eficiente. O processo já começou e não é parável.” . . .   Ter. 16...
